I get stressed out nearly everytime I read an AI blog, article or report. So many of the resources for AI noisily and rapidly shoot out information, reports, praises, woes, tips, tricks of AI; yet it lacks meaningful substance. The direct impact of generative AI on daily digital life is enormous but there is altogether too much hype to sift through.
I intend to slow down, pause, and ask meaningful questions that influence the way we utilize and think about AI. I don't see enough resources that provide thoughtful insight into generative AI useage. At first I was going to write this post as 'The Lack of Thoughtfulness in AI Useage'. But I'd rather talk about what I want to talk about; Thoughtfulness. Than to talk about the lack of it.
I am unable to adequately provide comprehensive thoughtfulness on generative AI; I need you, my readers to comment on this blog, DM or email me. Ask your questions, provide your feedback and we can discuss it. Right now. skip to the bottom and ask your question provide your feedback; then come back here and keep reading! I need you in this endeavour; engage with this content and I think this will be worth our time together! I need thoughtful resources amidst the noise to stay grounded and if you are reading this; you need a thoughtful resource on AI useage too. I hope this will be a valuable resource for both of us!
There is so much information we need to take in on AI! Generative AI itself is producing more information than we could ever keep up with as mortal humans. According to many estimates AI alone is generating more than a hundred million terabytes of data every single day. It is also estimated that in the year 2000 there were fewer than one hundred million terabytes of data available in the entire world. So... we are now generating more data in one day than the amount of data that exsted in the world in the year 2000.
This stat sends my brain into a tumble dryer spinning vortex trying to comprehend. The frenzy to get all the information as fast as possible is futile. I've been subscribed to a great AI newsletter tldr.tech for a few months now, and I am genuinely shocked every morning how much has changed in the AI world in 24hours... Every 24 hours. I save reading the newsletter till the evening cause my entire day of work would be impacted by a "Throw up your hands in frustration" feeling that the digital work is just broken by how much is going on around me. Enter thoughtfulness, at this time thoughtfulness and slowing down is my solution to catching up with AI. Bigger and more does not inherently mean better. AI is an amazing tool that has changed my worklife, I use it in a way that saves me copious time, increases the excellence of my work and creates better work output than I can on my own. But as it grows and grows everyday I have to slow down and use it in a way that helps me in this human life (So many topics to explore on this!). I cannot fall into the trap of trying to keep up with AI, there is no value to keeping up with it all.
I'm trying to keep these brief, I think the above helps... I will leave you with something to think about in your weekly work:
Do what you can do. Some days do a little bit more, some days do a little bit less. Keep getting better, keep using and learning about AI, but don't get caught in the frenzy that creates worry of missing the 'Next Big Thing'. Keep your head up, and keep moving forward. You will get to where you need to go.
Next week we will talk about how to use AI to make you smarter and not dumber. If you haven't yet, subscribe below, share this with your friends and ask questions!
Until next time, have a great week.
From me to you,
Tim
